1st Trimester Reflections

I am proud that I can do equations really well now because I used to not understand them at all and it brought my grade down. I wish I could do better on long division. I think I'm okay with long division but I think there is room for improvemet. Algebra has not been that challenging for me but there were a few things I struggled on like mixture problems, percent of change, and a little bit of long division. I feel that I have mastered equations, percent of change, and literal equations. My goals for next trimester is not to rely as much on corrections (meaning I get more things right the first time around and do less for corrections) and if I don't understand something I should go to Mr. Thornton strait after class instead of waiting for acedemic workshop. The way I should complete these goals is that I should work really hard on homework and email Mr. Thornton if I need something and go strait to Mr. Thornton if I don't understand something.

Service learning and Math

For service learning my Koinania is partnered with an orphanige/school in Africa. Apparently they make amazing sock monkeys but I haven't seen them yet. My koinania is going to make and sell some sock minkeys to raise money for our partner. Their preschool like crumbled or something like that. We don't go anywhere to make the sock monkeys, we just stay in school. Math relates to our service learning partners because we have to buy materials as well as make enough money to send something over to our partners. We have to even out our profit with the cost. We have to make sure it doesn't cost more than the money we raise.

Adding and subtracting intergers

I do things kind of different and people will say the way I do it is wrong and I don't know how to explain how to get these properly.
 a) 5+ -8 = -3 The way I got the answer to that is pretty much doing 5 - 8 because the negative is well negative like a minus.
b) -4 + 10 = 6 I solved that one by doing 10 - 4, I think the you could put things like that backwards sometimes.
c) 4-9 = -5 This one is kind of hard for me to explain, I flipped it and did 9-4 but knowing the answer would be negative put the negative mark in.
d) -8 - (-9) = 1. This one is pretty much crossing out itself.

Spreadsheets in Math

You can use spreadsheets in math to create graphs and other things without killing trees. Also if you printed it out but lost it you could email it instead. To see my spreadsheet click (here)

Google groups aregood for classes because you hardly have to copy down notes and if your sick at home you can still see what the Hw is for th class. Then you won't have to make up any Hw unless you were super sick. If you want to go to google groups click (here)

Twiducate is good for updating your teacher on your progress whether it telling them your done with Hw or your having trouble with something. I like our twiducate because it's handy if your stuck, not only your teacher can help but the whole class. If you want to go to twiducate click (here).

I used a site called build your wild self to make an avatar click (here) if you want to try it. I would recomend it to anyone who wants to make a simple avatar and is not hard.
